Our School Board

Every state and state-integrated school (kura) in New Zealand is governed by a school board, a Crown entity that plays a vital role in shaping the direction of education in our community. The board’s primary goal is to ensure that every student reaches their highest potential in learning and achievement.

At Sir Douglas Bader Intermediate School, our board is responsible for upholding the school’s vision, values, and strategic direction. While the board provides governance and oversight, it does not manage the day-to-day running of the school—that role belongs to the principal and school leadership team.

The Board’s Key Responsibilities

Guided by the Education and Training Act 2020, the school board focuses on four key objectives:

• Supporting every student to reach their highest possible level of achievement
• Ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all
• Providing an inclusive education that meets the needs of all students
• Upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of school governance

To achieve these objectives, the board is responsible for:

• Setting the school’s strategic direction and long-term goals
• Protecting and promoting the school’s values
• Monitoring and evaluating student learning outcomes
• Approving school policies and ensuring compliance
• Overseeing financial management and resource allocation
• Strengthening community engagement and partnerships
